Big Bird Watch in Reception

This week Reception took part in the RSPB's Big Bird Watch. They began the week by learning key facts about common garden birds and identifying different bird song.

Children made binoculars to help them spot wood pigeons, starlings, robins, blue tits and crows in the garden.

As our Maths focus was more than, fewer than, children used ten frames to record how many birds they could find in a hunt around the classroom and then made pictograms to record other children's favourite fruit, colours, drinks etc. They were able to identify which answer had the most and the fewest by explaining their answers.
