Penguins in Reception

Continuing their adventure into frozen worlds, Reception’s text this week was Jonty Gentoo, the penguin who escapes the zoo to head to Antarctica (via an accidental detour to the North Pole!)

Children retold the story in their own words and drawings before sequencing it with short phrases and sentences in their Literacy books.

In Maths, children used part-part-whole models and Numicon to combine numbers to make 5. They used this to work out how many of the 5 beans were hiding underneath the penguin.

There was great excitement on Monday, when the large apparatus was put out in the gym. Children showed impressive gross motor skills climbing, balancing and swinging.
