Y3 Magnets!
In their science lesson, children explored magnetism by designing and creating magnetic racing games. Working in pairs or small groups, they built a racetrack from cardboard and attached a paperclip to a small race car. Using a bar magnet under the track, they discovered how magnetic forces move objects without direct contact.
This hands-on activity helped pupils understand that magnets attract certain materials and act at a distance. They also experimented with different surfaces to observe how friction affects movement. By decorating and adapting their racetracks with obstacles or speed boosts, they developed problem-solving skills.
To conclude, pupils demonstrated their games and explained their design choices using scientific vocabulary. This engaging activity deepened their understanding of forces and magnetism while fostering creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking.
