Eco Warriors with the RHS National Nature Park
For our second session with the National Education Nature Park the Eco Warriors moved to the garden to map habitats.
The map will help us to measure and track the progress we make over the coming year to improve habitats in our school grounds. The data is also used by the Natural History Museum on groundbreaking research into nature recovery.
Using the Habitat Mapper on GIS Field Maps, children learnt how to identify and plot habitat areas in the garden. They mapped individual trees - logging whether they were deciduous or evergreen, broadleaf or coniferous. They tested permeable and non-permeable ground habitats by pouring water onto them.
