We’re Going to Find the Monster
This week Reception learnt the book, We’re Going to Find the Monster by Malorie Blackman. In order to build their oracy and storytelling skills, they retold the story in many different formats - from story maps to roleplay to talking about their own journey to find a monster. Children used language from the book including, ‘shimmering ocean’, ‘huge, high mountain’ and ‘bubbly bubble lake’. On Tuesday, there were some suspicious footsteps in the corridor, leading many children to discuss how the monster had made their way into school!
In Maths, children practised counting to a ‘stopping number’; counting an accurate amount of objects to a given total. They discussed how they organised the counting bears, e.g. into 10 frames or lines so that they could check their answer was correct.
