Thursday 18 April 2024 The Earth and 3D Shapes As Reception begin their topic, Maps Maps Maps, they began with the world! Children loved looking at world maps and globes, identifying animals in different continents and noticing land, sea and desert. They created suncatcher globes and wrote post-it notes about things and people they love on Earth.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Year 4 - Vindolanda and Roman Army Museum This week, Year 4 visited the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda. At the Roman Army Museum, amazingly, we were taught Latin and Roman numerals by a hologram Roman teacher! We also explored the Museum and watched a short film about the history of the area surrounding Hadrian’s Wall. At Vindolanda, we searched for clues around the ruins of the fort to solve a crossword problem. The children showed excellent resilience, persevering through the challenge despite the wet and cold conditions. Great job Year 4!

Monday 15 April 2024 Victorian Classroom Experience - Year 2 On Monday morning as Year 2 children entered the classroom they noticed that some of their normal routines and procedures had been replaced by Victorian tasks.

Thursday 28 March 2024 Year 1 Scones Linked to their work on measures in Maths, Year 1 have been baking scones. They looked at accurate weighing and measuring of the ingredients before combining the ingredients using a rubbing method.

Wednesday 27 March 2024 Stone Age Day Today was Stone Age Day in Year 3. We started the morning off in darkness and only allowed to whisper while we did cave paintings of Stone Age animals such as the Woolly Mammoth, Direwolf and the Gigantopithecus.

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Reception's Dinosaurs and Doubles Last week, Reception finished their fortnight on Dinosaurs. They learnt about Mary Anning, the pioneering paleontologist and fossil collector. They compared Mary's everyday life to their own, noiticing similarities and differences between the past and present.

Friday 22 March 2024 Year 1 Observational Drawing Year 1 have been working hard to develop their drawing skills. They have looked at shading, hatching and cross hatching alongside looking at the different shapes they can see in an object. Today, children brought in a favourite bear to draw from observation. Their drawings have been amazing! Well done Year 1!

Tuesday 19 March 2024 Year 2's Outdoor Learning As part of our nature and challenge scientific skills, Year 2 explored the garden to identify some unexpected animals hiding in the wrong habitat.

Friday 15 March 2024 Year 1 Investigating Toys Year 1 have been investigating old and new toys in History. Children were tasked with the role of sorting out a collection of toys as museum curators. They found out key information about the toys including what they are made from, how old they are and any extra facts.

Thursday 14 March 2024 Reception Spring Stay and Play Children enjoyed welcoming grown ups into the classroom for Stay and Play sessions this week. There was lots of drawing and building, and the odd appearance from the chicks too!

Wednesday 13 March 2024 Y4 - Cockshaw Burn Visit This week, Y4 visited Cockshaw Burn to measure the flow of the river. First they measured a distance of 10m. They then dropped a dog biscuit into the river and timed how long it took to float 10 metres downstream. Children also created a field sketch of the river and it's surroundings.

Wednesday 6 March 2024 The Chicks! The long awaited chicks have arrived. After 21 days of incubation, the first eggs pipped last night. They are now keeping warm under an incubator.

Tuesday 5 March 2024 Year 1 Mosque Visit Today, Year 1 visited Newcastle Central Mosque linked to their work in RE on Sacred Places. They shared their current knowledge of Islam with Brother Khadim alongside learning lots of new facts.

Tuesday 5 March 2024 Y3 Handball This half term we’ve been learning the skills needed for Handball. We’ve been doing games that will help us practice bouncing, throwing and catching. We played a game of Sharks which involved trying to bounce a ball past the sharks who were trying to grab the ball from us. Some children quickly worked out that it is better for everyone to make a line to make it more difficult for people to get across. Others made tweaks and suggestions for the best way to defend.

Wednesday 28 February 2024 Holi - Year 4 Holi is a popular and significant Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love, and Spring. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of the deities Radha and Krishna. Additionally, the day signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it commemorates the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha over Hiranyakashipu. Year 4 researched the Holi festival, wrote what they had learnt onto post-it notes and then added the post-it notes to our Holi festival working wall.

Friday 16 February 2024 Reception's STEM Mission Complete Supertato has been successfully rescued from Evil Pea's island, using recycled boats, powered by wooden and elastic propellers.

Friday 9 February 2024 Year 1 Stop Motion Year 1 worked with Mr Ibbertson to learn how to create a simple stop motion film. They created their short film using multiple photos to create a clip of a ball rolling across the table. Some children then challenged themselves to make their ball move up and down different objects with a few extra characters captured for interest. Well done Year 1!
