Thursday 16 May 2024 Dance with Natasha Elizabeth Reception have loved 5 weeks of Dance with Natasha Elizabeth. Working on their own, as a group and in partners, children learnt new routines, moved to different pulses and followed multi-step instructions brilliantly. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed a musical Thursday!

Wednesday 15 May 2024 Year 4 - Portraits Over the last half term, Year 4 have been learning how to draw portraits. Initially, we focussed on the eyes, nose and mouth. Now, we have moved onto creating the full face. We learnt valuable rules to support us to place the features of the face in the correct position. Later in the half term, we will learn how to draw portraits in the style of Modigliani.

Tuesday 14 May 2024 Year 2 - Mental Health Awareness Week To kick start Mental Health Awareness week, children in Year 2 have been discussing their feelings. We started by talking about what they do when they’re happy and how to make someone else feel happy.

Thursday 9 May 2024 Y4 - Tennis Y4 have been out in the sun this week with Tennis Tom. They have been practicing using forehand and backhand to return the ball over the net to their partners. They have shown excellent teamwork as they control their rallies to ensure the ball bounces only once before being returned over the net. They are beginning to recognise ways of scoring points in tennis and have started to play short games against their partners.

Wednesday 8 May 2024 Year 2 - Wellbeing Wednesday As part of this week's Wellbeing Wednesday group, Mrs Hewison took a group of children into the garden. Using their senses, they began by closing their eyes, discussing what they could hear and smell. They were able to spot signs of Spring and identified a range of new flowering plants. Children then drew what they could see.

Thursday 2 May 2024 All About Hexham This week, Reception talked all about their local area - Hexham! They drew maps of their route to school, including bridges, shops, hills and garden gates. Children described their journey, writing in simple sentences. They compared Hexham landmarks to those in London, including The London Eye and Tower Bridge.

Wednesday 1 May 2024 Y4 - Electricity Experiment Over the last few weeks, Y4 have been using the micro-bits to investigate circuits. They worked in small teams to code the micro-bits to light up and buzz when they were part of a complete circuit. They then investigated which materials were conductors and which were insulators by adding items into the circuits. This week, Y4 were challenged to create a switch for their micro-bit. Using card, split pins and paperclips, they created switches which opened and closed allowing the electricity to pass through the circuit when the switch was pressed.

Wednesday 1 May 2024 Year 2 - Team work in the Movement Lab This week in PE, children visited the Movement Lab to continue working on being part of a team. To further develop their teamwork skills they focused on giving examples of good communication within their team.

Wednesday 24 April 2024 Year 3 - Clay! This week children have been looking at the work of Antony Gormley. Children looked at his installation of 'Field for the British Isles' (1993)

Wednesday 24 April 2024 Year 2 - The Rainbow Fish On Tuesday, Year 2 children used the story The Rainbow Fish to discuss the qualities of a good friend. They named and ranked their qualities in order. Children reflected on their personality traits and highlighted their positive impact within the class.

Monday 22 April 2024 Year 4 - Vattenfall Year 4 started the week with a visit from Matt who works for Vattenfall. Vattenfall specialise in creating wind turbines. We learnt about different types of renewable energy but particularly how we can harness the wind to create power. Matt explained to us what kind of jobs were available at Vattenfall and what goes into creating and installing the enormous wind turbines. The children asked some interesting questions regarding the differences between onshore and offshore wind turbines.

Thursday 18 April 2024 The Earth and 3D Shapes As Reception begin their topic, Maps Maps Maps, they began with the world! Children loved looking at world maps and globes, identifying animals in different continents and noticing land, sea and desert. They created suncatcher globes and wrote post-it notes about things and people they love on Earth.

Thursday 18 April 2024 Year 4 - Vindolanda and Roman Army Museum This week, Year 4 visited the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda. At the Roman Army Museum, amazingly, we were taught Latin and Roman numerals by a hologram Roman teacher! We also explored the Museum and watched a short film about the history of the area surrounding Hadrian’s Wall. At Vindolanda, we searched for clues around the ruins of the fort to solve a crossword problem. The children showed excellent resilience, persevering through the challenge despite the wet and cold conditions. Great job Year 4!

Monday 15 April 2024 Victorian Classroom Experience - Year 2 On Monday morning as Year 2 children entered the classroom they noticed that some of their normal routines and procedures had been replaced by Victorian tasks.

Thursday 28 March 2024 Year 1 Scones Linked to their work on measures in Maths, Year 1 have been baking scones. They looked at accurate weighing and measuring of the ingredients before combining the ingredients using a rubbing method.

Wednesday 27 March 2024 Stone Age Day Today was Stone Age Day in Year 3. We started the morning off in darkness and only allowed to whisper while we did cave paintings of Stone Age animals such as the Woolly Mammoth, Direwolf and the Gigantopithecus.

Tuesday 26 March 2024 Reception's Dinosaurs and Doubles Last week, Reception finished their fortnight on Dinosaurs. They learnt about Mary Anning, the pioneering paleontologist and fossil collector. They compared Mary's everyday life to their own, noiticing similarities and differences between the past and present.

Friday 22 March 2024 Year 1 Observational Drawing Year 1 have been working hard to develop their drawing skills. They have looked at shading, hatching and cross hatching alongside looking at the different shapes they can see in an object. Today, children brought in a favourite bear to draw from observation. Their drawings have been amazing! Well done Year 1!
